It could be fourth time lucky for Martin Murray this weekend when he travels to Germany to take on WBO World super-middleweight champion Arthur Abraham in Hannover. The St Helens’ man has come agonisingly close to winning a world title against Felix Sturm and Sergio Martinez, respectively, in the past.
Murray, 33, moved up to the 168lbs division earlier this year when signing with Matchroom Sport and promoter Eddie Hearn. In his three bouts since, Martin has looked exceptional in blowing away mediocre opposition.
As a result, Arthur Abraham has offered him a voluntary defence this weekend for which Murray boasts fantastic claims against the established champion. Abraham, Armenian-born, has been rock-solid in recent years and has proved to be very difficult to beat.
However, it is clear Martin Murray possesses all of the necessary attribute to topple the great German-based fighter. His electric work-rate, along with his intelligent boxing skills and ring awareness will trouble Arthur Abraham during their bout this weekend.
The champion has become renowned for being lazy during his fights before coming alive in the final 45 seconds to attract the interest of onlooking judges. Though, similar tactics against Murray on Saturday night will see him come up short.
If the 33-year old Brit can maintain a solid pace over the 12-rounds and box with real consistency then he will have every chance of persuading the German judges to give him a well-deserved points victory on his fourth attempt at world level.
Bet: Martin Murray by Decision or Technical Decision 7/4 (Ladbrokes)
