Weekend Football Accumulator Bankers
Here we take a look at a few of this weekend’s almost certain winners for your accumulator.
Manchester City
Manchester City face an Aston Villa side who look most certainly doomed and destined for The Championship next season. Villa have conceded 51 goals in the league this season and will be coming up against a City side who have scored an average of over two goals a game at home this season. This seems a certain City win who will be in great spirits after their success on penalties in the Capital One Cup Final against Liverpool on Sunday.
Chelsea
Chelsea face a Stoke side who have won one out of four away games since the turn of the year, and they’re coming up against a Chelsea side who look much improved under Guus Hiddink, and are unbeaten in the league since his arrival for his second term as manager. They’re also on three-game winning streak in which top scorer Diego Costa has been showing signs of himself from last season with seven of his 11 goals in the league coming at Stamford Bridge. The Blues look a solid bet.
Sheffield Wednesday
Play-Off hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday face a Rotherham side who have looked relegation candidates since their win against Bolton on Boxing Day. Since then they’ve won only two games out of 11 which has led to them sacking boss Neil Redfearn and replacing him with journeyman Neil Warnock. Rotherham have also lost 13 away games this season and will be coming up against a Sheffield Wednesday side who thrive at home having lost only one home game all season.
Burton Albion
League One leaders Burton Albion travel to a Crewe side who are fighting for their lives at the wrong end of League One. Burton will be raring to play away again after a very good 1-0 win away at Sheffield United on Tuesday night. Seven of Burton’s 10 away wins this season have been won by just a one goal margin. They’re facing a Crewe side who have the second-worst home record in the division picking up just three wins in their 17 home games this season, whilst Burton are the third best away side in the league.
Wigan Athletic
Second in League One, Wigan face a Peterborough side who’ve lost five on the bounce since their loss to West Brom in the FA Cup. In contrast, Wigan have been on a great run. Since losing at home to Blackpool in mid-December they’ve not lost a league game, winning eight out of 13 games. Wigan also boast one of the best home records in League One, having only lost just two games at home – one of them being leaders Burton Albion. And coming back off of an impressive result at Millwall on Tuesday night managing to hold out for a draw with 10 men, they will be looking forward to their home comforts once again.
Northampton Town
Run-away leaders in League Two Northampton will make the long trip to Carlisle where they will be wanting to extend their lead at the top with Oxford and Plymouth meeting this weekend. The Cobblers travel to Carlisle with the joint best away record in the division with 37 points from 17 games. Since being defeated by Portsmouth in December, Northampton haven’t lost a game, whereas Carlisle have been a bit inconsistent of late, losing two of their last six – drawing two.
Cheltenham Town
National League leaders Cheltenham Town travel to second bottom side Welling United who haven’t won in 13 league games, stretching back to mid-December. Cheltenham come to Welling with the best away record in the Conference whilst Welling have only won two home games all season. Cheltenham will want to get back on track after drawing at home to Gateshead last week and losing away to Eastleigh on Tuesday night.
