Why you must watch Royal Ascot 2019
It is, quite simply the highlight of the British social calendar. When June brings this year’s edition of Royal Ascot, the eyes of many will be turned on the Berkshire course as it is a must watch event.
With Her Majesty in attendance (along with a plethora of other blue-blooded horse racing enthusiasts), much will be made of the fashion choices of those keenly watched icons.
We, however, don’t really know anything about clothes. So we’ll talk about horse racing instead.
Ascot Gold Cup
The centrepiece of the festival, the Ascot Gold Cup has been run since 1807. Stradivarius has won his last five races – including the 2018 Gold Cup – and is certain to go off as the favourite. There will be several keen challengers, however, and perhaps none more dangerous than the Charlie Appleby-trained Cross Counter. The four-year-old bested a field of 24 to win the Melbourne Cup back in November and added a further victory down under in March.
Other outside shots to keep an eye on include Capri and Call The Wind.
While betting on the Ascot Gold Cup, there are some free bets that you can get. Here you can read more about watching the Ascot Gold Cup online.
Diamond Jubilee Stakes
This race is one of the most exciting to watch in the horse racing calendar. The race takes a little over a minute to run – blink and you’ll miss it! The sprint this year will be headlined by Blue Point and Santa Ana Lane. But don’t rule out The Tin Man, who ran clear to win the race back in 2017.
Anything can happen in the short burst however, so make sure you’re aware of all the runners!
